Gamblin

While we were in Portland, Raymond and I were able to visit the Gamblin “factory” and watch the process of making paint unfold. Raymond was in pigment geek heaven I think. When I first walked in I was a bit surprised at how small the place was, considering this is where they store all the dry pigments. make all the paints, inks and mediums, and house all the stock waiting to be shipped to retailers. It was pretty cool actually. It smelled great in there, like linseed oil.

photos from Portland

It is amazing how few photos I took on our trip to Portland! Without the kids around I just was not my normal shutterbug self. We also decided to take the older camera with us on the trip, and I couldn’t believe how difficult I found it after getting used to the SLR! Oh well. We did get a few photos of the Japanese Garden though they do not come close to doing it justice – the place was so beautiful and serene . . . The view of Mt. Hood from the Garden was amazing, though it also does not translate in the photos. It was really breathtaking – and a bit surreal – this huge snowy peak rising out of the blue. We tried to get a photo of Raymond & I with the mountain in the background, but Raymond’s hair is blocking the mountain and the sun was in our eyes so I am making a silly face. Oh well.

Eggs!

April 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This afternoon the kids and I dyed Easter Eggs. I only boiled a dozen eggs, thinking that would be more than enough, but it was amazing how quickly it was all over! Lola Gray wants to paint her eggs, now that they are dyed, so I imagine that will be on tap for tomorrow. BTW, I passed on purchasing an egg dying kit this year in favor of using the gel food coloring already in the cabinet. The colors might not have been quite as vibrant (at least not the pinks, which came out looking much more orange to me) but it was super simple.
