Blackberry picking

“A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition.”
~ William Arthur Ward

The day started out cloudy, foggy and threatening to rain again. But it was day one of getting on with life so moping around the house was just not an option. So we jumped in the car early and headed out to pick blackberries before the day got too hot.

The berries were plentiful and the kids did a great job of picking despite the thorns. We left with nearly 6 pounds of blackberries! I’m thinking blackberry cobbler, blackberry jam . . . what else can you make with blackberries?

On the way back to the car Fletcher spotted this little creature on the ground. I love that he has such a good eye – I would have just walked right past it.

Later this afternoon we went to the library to see Arts Alive, a musical quintet that specializes in bringing music education to children. This presentation featured the music of Johnny Mercer and our friend Heidi Bindhammer sang, which Lola Gray though was the most wonderful thing ever.

Not bad for the first day of summer I guess.
