It seems like for as long as I have had children, there has been talk of a children’s museum in Savannah. I had started to think it was never going to happen. But thanks to a $200,000 grant from the Newman’s Own Foundation, phase one of the Savannah Children’s Museum officially opened yesterday!
It was worth the wait.
The outdoor space is overflowing with fun, creative, educational activities for kids. Musical instruments, over-sized chess boards, herb gardens and a secluded book nook are scattered among slides and climbing walls, a life-sized maze and a cool-down misting wall. The integration of the existing architecture, the remains of a former Central of Georgia Railway building, is spectacular. But Lola’s favorite part was definitely the steep, grassy hill – we don’t see a lot of hills in these parts!
