Last night was the 25th annual National Night Out, America’s Night Out Against Crime. As co-social chairs for the Ardsley Park Neighborhood Association, Linette Gerhardt and I were in charge of the festivities. Two weeks ago, I didn’t even know what the National Night Out was! This was definitely thrown together last minute, but I think it was a pretty good party – and of course Savannah loves a good party!
My camera battery died halfway through the party (of course!) but we did get a few cute pics.
It was a million degrees out, even in the shade of the square, and the mosquitos and sand gnats were out in force. But we still had a pretty good turnout, including Congressman John Barrow (Fletcher accidentally punched him in the crotch during a particularly ‘active’ dance – not a high point of the event), County Commissioner Helen Stone, Alderman Mary Ellen Sprague and Chief of Police Michael Berkow. There was a bouncy house for the kids and, more impressively, a fire truck to climb on! The fire fighters were wonderful with the kids. These photos of Fletcher in the firetruck were on the front page of the Savannah Morning News this morning! (Can you tell how sweaty his head was? The heat index was something like 108!)
We also had fabulous live music by the band Soap. The guys were great, despite the heat and the bugs. The drummer let all the kids play with the drum kit, and I think may have single-handedly inspired a new generation of drummers. (I have secretly wanted drums for years, so I won’t be too upset if the kids start begging for a set!) The super cute photo of Max Braun and Tristan & Beck Gerhardt was with the Savannah Morning News story online.
