Ripe on the vine

The first of our cherry tomatoes were ripe enough for picking today! There were only two of them – Fletcher ate one and Raymond and I split the other – just a tease, really, a mouthful of explosive, amazing flavor and then . . . . gone. I can not wait for more! What is it about home grown tomatoes that makes them taste soooooooooo much better than their store-bought cousins? And why do we even bother to buy such poor substitutes rather than wait, patiently, excitement building, until summer arrives?
