A nifty winter trick

This cold weather has been playing nasty tricks on us lately. For Savannahians, a few days of high temps in the low 40s and even (gasp!) 30s is enough to make us tuck tail and run indoors. We simply are not prepared, and do not have the wardrobe, for true winter weather.

Our skin seems to be taking to brunt of it. Dry, red, pretty uncomfortable. Solution? Colloidal Oatmeal.

I used to spend a fortune on Aveeno Soothing Bath, which is 100% colloidal oatmeal, but then I discovered how easy it is to make at home! Are you ready for this? Take a cup of old fashioned whole oats (this is the kind we eat for breakfast every morning) and grind in a coffee grinder until it becomes a fine powder. Done! (Told you it was easy!) Add the oatmeal powder to a warm bath and soak for 15 minutes. Watch out – the tub will be a bit slippery. Your skin will thank you.
