Tivoli

It has been a week now since we returned from our trip and I still have tons of travel posts to catch up on! I’m afraid I may never get to all of them, but I can’t let Tivoli slip through the cracks!

For the group’s final outing we headed to Tivoli, about 30km from Rome. Tivoli is known for it’s spectacular gardens, designed to offer a new surprise around each turn. Breathtaking does not even begin to describe this place. After the dust and chaos of Rome, Tivoli is quite literally a breath of fresh, sweet smelling air.

It started to rain about the time we arrived. Then it rained harder. And harder! We huddled in a dry fountain niche for a while until Lola Gray couldn’t take it any more (Hail again?? Lo is not fond of hail!) and we decided to make a run for it. As we ran through the gardens back up to the house, water was flowing downhill through the pathways like rivers. Stairs became waterfalls. Every one of us was soaked to the bone. I have never had so much fun in my life! I love playing in the rain, and I can’t think of a more lovely spot in which to do so!

The rain didn’t last long, and we were able to go back out and explore the gardens some more before heading further up the hill to a dinner  complete with silly music, laughter, dancing and an incredible sunset. A lovely end to a lovely Roman holiday.
