I am tired and sunburnt and my head hurts. My house is overflowing with dirty laundry and piles of gear to be washed and put up. My children are covered in mosquitos bites and the dirt may never come out from under their fingernails. And I’m pretty sure we all still smell like smoke . . .
But it was all worth it and I would do it again tomorrow if I could!
We spent the weekend camping at Hunting Island with friends and it could not have been more perfect. The weather was amazing. We spent all of Saturday on the beach, splashing in the waves, finding sand dollars (and throwing them back), building sand castles and drawing giant snowmen in the sand. We saw jelly fish and crabs and dolphins. There were deer and raccoons and more caterpillars than you can shake a stick at. And the tooth fairy even managed to find us way out in the woods!
One of these days we just might have to get an RV (or a shiny silver Airstream?) so we can camp like this all summer long. I’m thinking about that classic American road-trip – every family should take at least one, right? Route 66? The Grand Canyon? Who knows . . . for now we have the memories of an amazing camping weekend to get us through until the next time.
