My little fish

Lola Gray has been wanting to join a swim team for years, but with the travel we have done the past few summers it just couldn’t happen. Finally, her time has come. Our pool doesn’t have a swim team, so she joined the team at the JEA and is loving every minute of it. The first meet was Saturday, and it was a crazy, chaotic, overwhelming experience! The kickoff meet involved 10 teams and was held indoors at the Chatham County Aquatic Center – the echo was deafening and things moved really quickly, which was more than a little stressful! Lola swam 2 races – freestyle and backstroke – and did great in both. She wasn’t the fastest, but she wasn’t the slowest either. After her first race she climbed out of the water, walked over to me and burst into tears. It wasn’t that she was upset or that anything had gone wrong, but the whole experience was just so overwhelming it had to come out somehow! She took a deep breath, though, and moved on to her next event. She was supposed to swim in a relay as well, but 2 of the 4 girls were crying and refused to swim! Oh well. I love that my girl is finding herself and that she never stops trying. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings!
